William “Bill” Ehmen

William L. Ehmen, 91, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at the Polo Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Polo, Illinois.

He was born June 26, 1926 in rural Stillman Valley, Illinois; the son of Amos F. and Grace (Schier) Ehmen. He attended Crowell School and Stillman Valley High School. Bill married Avis M. Kime on October 2, 1948 in Oregon. Bill was a farmer and started working at Sinnissippi Farms near Daysville. With his wife, Avis, he farmed around the Rochelle, Oregon and Polo area for nearly 40 years. He shelled corn for area farmers for many years as well. Bill was an avid fisherman and loved photography. Bill was also one of the world’s best kidders – he could make anyone laugh. He was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church of Polo.

Survivors include daughters, Nancy (John) Slonneger of Sterling and Laurie (Marshall Dean) Chapman of Eureka; son, David W. Ehmen of Rockford; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan Merema) Clydesdale of Fulton, Andrew (Kelli) Slonneger, of Sterling, William Slonneger of Mobile, Alabama, Christopher Ardapple-Ehmen of Shiloh, Illinois, and Grace and Hope Chapman, both of Eureka; and great-grandchildren, Grant Clydesdale, Dani Lee Slonneger, and Tobin, Kiptyn and Maren Ardapple-Ehmen. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Avis Ehmen; daughter, Kathleen Ehmen, son William L. Ehmen, Jr.; sisters, Jennie Wilke and Hattie Johnson; brothers Henry Ehmen and John V. Ehmen; infant sister; and infant brother; A special thank you to Polo Rehabilitation & Health Care Center for all the loving care Bill received during his time there.

Service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St., Polo; the Rev. Brian LeBaron, pastor of Faith United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m on Thursday, January 18, 2018 also at the funeral home. Burial in Fairmount Cemetery immediately following the services.

A memorial is established for Faith United Methodist Church.
