Bernice Eileen Horton, 91, of Polo, died Sunday July 25, 2021 in Heritage Square in Dixon, IL. She was born April 29, 1930 in Milledgeville, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Lillian (Goble) Deets. Bernice married William Horton on November 28, 1948 and they were married for 53 years before his death in 2002. Bernice was very involved with the Open Bible Church in Polo, the Polo Senior Center, and the Polo Woman’s Garden Club. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and gardening. Bernice retired from the Polo School District after many years as their bookkeeper. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Bradley & Brian Horton, and brother Leo Deets.
Survivors include her granddaughters, Rebecca (Justin) Baugh of Blue Grass, IA and Jennifer (Kevin) Lawson of Chicago, IL; niece Marilyn (Ken) Ditzler of Dixon; and daughters-in-law, Kimberly Horton of Washington, IL and Nancy Horton of Bradenton, FL.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 4, 2021 at 10:30 AM in the Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St., Polo with Pastor Luke Schier of the Open Bible Church officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday August 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Gardens, Dixon, IL. Memorials may be directed to Polo Senior Center.
