Cheryl A. Garkey, 84, of Polo, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Citadel Care Center in Sterling after a brief illness.
Cheryl was born March 3, 1938, in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Roy and Esther Garkey. Cheryl was a graduate of Oregon High School Class of 1956. She went on to work for the Mt Morris Times from 1976 to 1985. Cheryl then went to work for Kable News in Mt Morris until her retirement. She was an active member of the Polo Senior Center. Cheryl enjoyed babysitting for family, road trips with friends, spring flowers and her pets – especially Tigger and Jazzi.
Cheryl is survived by her sister-in-law Carol Garkey of Polo, nieces Cindy (Mike) Sullivan and Jan Garkey, nephews David (Lori) Garkey and Rod (Deb Bryan) Garkey, special friend Susan Gipe and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, brother Duane and niece Susan Busser.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022, from 2-4 pm at the Polo Senior Center, 101 W. Mason Street, Polo, Illinois.
Honoring Cheryl’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
