Rosemary Troxel, age 95, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, Illinois after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born December 29, 1928 to John Warren and Bessie Irene Black in Bridgeport, Illinois. Rosemary had on brother, Ted Ronald, who preceded her in death. She met her husband, Rodger Troxel, while attending the University of Illinois and married on June 13, 1948. They were able to celebrate their 51st anniversary before Rodger passed away on October 29, 1999. Together they had two children, Susan (Sue) Whiting (Peter) and Tom Troxel (Rosa). Tom and Rosa blessed them with two grandchildren, James Russell Troxel (Karen) and Andrea Loren Wester (Nic). The family continued to grow with three great grandchildren, Natan Russell, Melanie Rose Troxel and Victoria Helen Wester. Sue provided Rosemary with spoiled grand dogs as she married later in life. Another extremely important person was Pamela Pfundstein. They taught together in Mt. Carroll and mom considered her to be an adopted daughter.
Rosemary had a very close and personal relationship with the Lord. This bonding gave her strength in difficult times, acceptance, love and encouragement. She had a valuable knowledge about the Bible and was a part of a Bible study group for about 50 years. The Lord was a part of Rosemary… in her values and how she chose to live life. Her family came first and she was the greatest fan of her entire family. She wanted to be an encourager to others and often acknowledged others with a thoughtful act, kind word or celebrating a special event. Rosemary worked for 22 years as the school librarian for Mt. Carroll School District. Her favorite memories are assisting students with researching term papers. She felt that giving back to a community was important. Since she earned her paycheck in Mt. Carroll, she felt obligated to support the local businesses. And anyone who knows Rosemary, knows that she was a diehard Chicago Cub fan. She stated watching the games to encourage Dad to take some time to relax but quick she was hooked. She loved watching baseball, basketball and attended her son’s games. She enjoyed going on traveling adventures with Sue, gardening, reading and doing puzzles. She would say that people just live too long. And yet, her life was filled with adventures and celebrations until the end.
Visitation will be Friday, January 19, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with burial at Fairmount Cemetery in Polo immediately following.
