Richard “Rick” S. Hewes, 75, of Polo, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Rock River Hospice in Sterling, IL.
Rick was born, March 27, 1948, in Oak Park, IL, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Wheat) Hewes. On December 27, 1969 in Polo, he was united in marriage to Doreen “Lisa” Smith. Rick was a teacher with Polo High School for over 30 years. In his retirement years he went back to work for the school as their IT for yet another 10 years. Rick was a loving husband, father and uncle. He enjoyed camping with his family, doing model trains with his son, drawing and working on his computer. Rick and his wife would collect books, some would say a library full, the science books were always his favorite. He also had a big heart for animals especially his cats later in life.
Survivors include his son Christopher Hewes of Polo; brother Robert Hewes of Prophetstown, IL; along with many Nieces and Nephews .
Rick was preceded in death by his loving wife Lisa and both parents.
The funeral will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 2, 2024 at Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St, Polo. Visitation will be one hour prior to services from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Haldane Cemetery, rural Polo immediately following the services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Rock River Hospice or Happy Tails Humane Society.
