Ruth A. Shipman, 79, of Polo, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, at Liberty Court in Dixon, IL surrounded by her family.
Ruth was born, May 5, 1945, in Pine Creek Township, rural Polo, the daughter of Jacob and Arlene (Giffrow) Jecklin. On May 13, 1967 in Lena, IL, she was united in marriage to Gary Shipman. Ruth retired after 21 years from the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department as the Secretary to the department. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ruth was a very social person and would always say “what can I do for you”, she had a servant’s heart.
Survivors include husband Gary; daughter: Kris (Steve) Bardell of Polo, IL; sons: Jeff (Sandy) Shipman of Polo, IL, Tim (Diane) Shipman of Dixon, IL; sister: Elaine (Hale) Guyer of Byron, IL; brother: Jim (Cathy) Jecklin of Dixon, IL; grandchildren Tori (Mayowa) Ogunfowokan, Tate Statler (Montana Muntean), Jordyn (Mitchell) Hughes, Bailey Shipman(Natalie Lorentz), Sidney (Cory) Roe, Josh (Kenzie) Shipman, Allison (Michael) Neubauer, Riley Bardell, Keaton Hudson, Carson Bardell, Logan Hudson; 11 Great-Grandchildren. Ruth was also affectionately known as “Grandma Ruth” to many of her Grandchildrens friends over the years. She was preceded in death by her Parents and a nephew Scott DeWall.
A memorial visitation will be Monday, March 3, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Crossroads Community Church in Polo. The memorial service will be immediately following at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. Steve Bardell officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Fairmount Cemetery in Polo.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
