Dwayne J. Templin, 88, of Polo, passed peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL, with family by his side.
Dwayne was born on May 23, 1937, in Freeport, IL, the son of John and Alice (Raetz) Templin. On February 25, 1966, he was united in marriage to Arlene (Messer) Davis and gained a young family: Jill, Jack, Tim, and Tom.
Dwayne was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked on the family farm in his younger years, raising dairy cows. He then went on to be a pressman with Kable Printing (Quebecor) in Mt. Morris for 45 years.
He enjoyed collecting, gardening, hunting, attending antique auctions, refinishing his auction finds, fast cars, and reading the daily newspaper. Dwayne was an avid television fan of all classic Westerns, Wheel of Fortune, Shark Tank, American Pickers, and Antiques Roadshow. He was also known for his quotes and his “Word of the Day.”
Survived by: daughter, Johna Templin; stepdaughter, Jill (Davis) Ridenhour; stepsons, Jack (Shelly) Davis and Tom Davis; 9 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; his brother, Darrell (Kay) Templin; brother-in-law, Jesse Pryor; and many nieces and nephews. Also, a special mention are long-time neighbors the Ditzlers and the Zieglers, and a special beagle, Rose. Dwayne was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; stepson, Tim; his parents; sisters, Mavis and Delores; and brother, Norman.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in Polo. Honoring Dwayne’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rock River Hospice (Sterling), Polo Area Senior Center, or Mt. Morris Senior and Community Center.
