Aida Blough, 86, of Polo, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon. She was born May 1, 1928, in Athens, Greece, the daughter of Shenork and Dirouhie (Kasparian) Dermenjian. On August 24, 1957, in Polo, she was united in marriage to Dale Blough (he preceded her in January of 2007). Aida was a loving mother and grandmother. She was instrumental in starting the first pre-school in Polo as well as having Thanksgiving week proclaimed as National Family Week which was signed by President Nixon.
Survivors include daughter Anne (Eric) Gaertner of Glen Ellyn; son David (Patha Brandon) Blough of Polo; sister Alice Prousaeos of Athens, Greece; brothers Patrick (Christine) Dermenjian of London, Ontario, Canada, Aram (Margaret) Dermentjian of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada; grandchildren Nathan and Emily Gaertner.
She was preceded in death by sister Shake’, brother Berje.
A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Church of the Brethren, 401 S. Congress, Polo. Family will be receiving guests from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. A private burial was held at Fairmount Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution can be made to the Aida Blough Memorial and can be mailed to Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St., Polo, IL 61064.
