Lois D White, 91, passed away Friday November 20, 2015 in Dixon. She was born December 28,1923 in Polo, the daughter of William Centennial and Flo Catherine (Welty) Schryver.
After high school graduation, Lois worked as a clerk at the A&P store in Polo for 16 years, where she had the price of every item memorized. On November 29, 1960 she married Floyd White. They lived and farmed in Lee Center until his death 8 years later. She was very involved in church activities, teaching her first Sunday School class at the age of 14. She continued teaching Sunday School for both children and adults well into her 80’s. She was the first cook for the Golden Meals program in Polo and could often be found organizing a dinner or wedding reception at the church. She loved to have others over to her home for a meal. Her door was always open.
After losing her husband Floyd at an early age, Lois moved back to her hometown of Polo to raise and provide for their 5 year old daughter. Without complaint as a single mom she raised Laurie into adulthood while leaning on the Lord for strength. She found joy at every turn, always counting her blessings.
She also enjoyed traveling, going out to eat with her friends, spending time with her grandchildren, feeding the birds and her flower garden. She always had an encouraging , cheery word for others whether through a handwritten note or in person.
She will be missed by her daughter Laurie (David) Sherrick and her grandchildren Andrew and Emily Sherrick.
She was preceded in death by her husband on December 27, 1968, her parents and one brother, William D. Schryver.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday November 24, 2015 at the Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St, Polo. Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Polo Church of the Brethren, 401 S. Congress, with burial immediately following at Fairmount Cemetery, Polo.

The family wishes to recognize with much gratitude the 3rd floor team at KSB Hospital and the staff at Serenity Hospice and Liberty Court for their excellent and compassionate care for Lois. She truly felt loved by all until the very end.
