William “Bill” A. Sweet, 77, of Oregon, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017, at KSB Hospital in Dixon with family by his side. Bill was born April 20, 1940, in Dixon, the son of Paul and Mildred (Parker) Sweet. On December 03,1960, in Chicago, he was united in marriage to Elaine Garand.
Bill and Elaine were 4th generation farmers in the Polo and Mt. Morris area. His passion was flying, traveling to many places with his wife. Bill was involved in many organizations, a charter member of the Polo Jaycee’s, the Ogle County Pilots, International Comanche Society, Mystic Tie Lodge #187 Polo, the Tebala Shrine in Rockford and the Polo Historical Society.
Survivors include his loving wife Elaine; daughter Suzanne Sweet of Polo; son William D. (Karen) Sweet of Byron; sister Barbara Crosby of Rockford; grandchildren Brandon Sweet, Sean Sweet, Shannon Engelhardt; nephew John (Mary Beth) Clausen
He was preceded in death by sister Pauline Clausen; brother Leonard Sweet.
Memorial visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 201 N. Division Ave, Polo, with the memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private at Fairmount Cemetery, Polo.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to St. Marks Lutheran Church in Polo or the Good Samaritan Fund, Pinecrest Community, Mt. Morris.
