Aileen Eugena Wagenknecht

Aileen “Jean” E. Wagenknecht, 89 of Kansas City, MO (formerly of Polo) passed away Sunday at Our Lady Of Mercy Country Home in Liberty, MO.

Jean was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Polo, the daughter of Archibald and Margaret (Lonergan) Smith. On May 25, 1950 in Polo, she was united in marriage to Thomas Wagenknecht.  Tom and Jean were married over 50 years at the time of his passing.  Jean was a devoted “Mimi” to her grandson, loved her family and dear friends.   Jean worked as a Department Manager for A & P  Grocery in Sterling.  She was a member of the St. James Parish in Liberty, MO, and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.  Jean enjoyed gardening, watching the Cubs or Packers and playing cards and bingo with friends.  She was an award winning bowler back in the day along with an Assistant Leader for the Girl Scouts in Polo.

Survivors include daughter Yonda (Greg) Grant of Kansas City, MO and beloved grandson Stephen.

She was preceded in death by husband Thomas; twin brother George and older brothers Neil and Carl.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 28th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 211 N. Franklin Ave, Polo. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Reverend Richard Kramer officiating.  Burial will take place at St. Marty Catholic Cemetery in Polo immediately following Mass.
