Ames J. Schryver, 85, of Polo, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at Polo Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Ames was born April 25, 1931 in Milledgeville, the son of John L. and Marie (Winkey) Schryver. On June 3, 1961 in Lanark he was united in marriage to June Stone (she preceded him on August 12, 2010). Ames worked at the City of Polo, Sanitation and Street Dept., for over 20 years until his retirement.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. Ames enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, antique tractors and shows, airplanes and flying. After retiring he could be found out at the family farm tinkering with whatever needed to be done. He was a member of Faith Discovery Church and the VFW Post 8455 both in Polo.
Survivors include daughter Wanda (Phillip) Estrada or Branson, MO; son Keith (Vicki) Schryver of Polo; sister Ruth (Bill) Borth of Milledgeville, brothers Merle (Carol Sue) Schryver of Sterling, Harold (Sandra) Schryver of Shannon; sister-in-law Mary Schryver of Franklin Grove; 4 grandchildren Lynette Morley of Branson, Mo, Erika (Bryan) Bateman of Nixa, MO, Christopher Sanford and Nicole Schryver both of Polo; 5 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by daughters Rita and Audrey; brother Larry Schryver.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon, St. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 at Faith Discovery Church, 801 W. Oregon St., Polo, burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children and Ogle County Hospice.
