Polo– Bernard “Bernie” Goeking, 68, of Polo, died Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at his residence.
Bernard was born July 20, 1949, in Fairbury, Nebraska, the son of Harold and Lila (Messing) Goeking.
He was proceeded in death by his parents. He went to Byron High School class of 1967, U of I Champaign in 1967-68 and Sauk Valley from 1988-89, where he received his AAS in electronic technology. He was an installer with Lee Energy, where he retired in December of 2016.
Bernard married Cheryl Kane on March 14, 1981. He was a member of the EUM church. Bernard belonged to the Armored Calvary Regiment in the Army during Vietnam. He loved being outdoors, making things and his garden.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Michelle Goeking, Dixon, Angela (Matt) Brown, Polo and Erin Goeking, Dixon; two sisters Linda (Brad) Blair, Florida and Karen (David) Brown, Ohio; two brothers Harold (Liz) Goeking, Polo and Alvin (Jean) Goeking, Belvidere.
The funeral service is at 10:00 a.m. Saturday September 2, 2017 with one hour prior visitation at Faith United Methodist Church, Polo, Pastor Brian LeBaron officiating.. Visitation is from 3-7p.m. on Friday September 1, 2017 at the Polo Family Funeral Home, Polo. Burial is at Fairmount Cemetery, Polo with full military honors.
