Charlie Craig

Charlie Craig

Charlie Craig, 66 died peacefully on March 2, 2022 at KSB Hospital. He was born on December 23, 1955 at the same hospital, the son of Donald and Rosemary Craig.

Charlie was a graduate of Polo High School and spent his childhood working with his father learning the art of woodworking and construction. He dreamed of joining the Navy Seabees after graduation but instead settled down in Polo, IL and married Vonda Bardell. In 1981, their daughter Nancyjo was born.

When his marriage to Vonda dissolved in 1987, Charlie moved to Dixon IL and met the love of his life, Anita Rocket. Anita and Charlie spent their lives together, working in Dixon and exploring the great Midwest. They enjoyed trips to the Wisconsin State Fair, Chicago Bears training camp and going to St. Louis to watch the Cardinals. They were never married but remained together until Anita died in 2020.

Charlie loved the Chicago Bears, hated the Cubs and bragged about his daughter and her accomplishments to anyone who would listen. He enjoyed fishing, trying new recipes and his grandchildren, Lola and Malone loved his “world famous” homemade ice cream.

Before he passed, Charlie enjoyed an international cruise where he finally got the chance to see the world outside of the Midwest.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Rosemary Craig and life partner, Anita Rocket.

He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Nancyjo and Michael Rongner, grandson Malone and granddaughter Lola of Springfield, MA. He also leaves behind his siblings, Michael Craig of Polo, IL and Linda (Wayne) Crackenberger of Pearl City, IL and nieces and nephews.

A family only celebration of life will be held on Thursday March 17, 2022 at 5:00 pm at the Polo Family Funeral Home. A visitation will be held at the Polo Family Funeral Home on the same date from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Flowers may be sent to Polo Family Funeral Home.
