Delores “Dee” M. Cassens, 83, of Polo, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at CGH Medical Center.
Dee was born March 8, 1934, in Whiteside County. She is the daughter of William and Gertrude (Johnson) Tornow. On Jan. 6, 1968, in Sterling, she was united in marriage to Elwin Cassens (he preceded her on April 12, 2009). Many knew Dee as the friendly server with the Pinecricker Cafe in Polo. She was a member of the Legion Auxillary, enjoyed bowling as well as watching and listening to the grandkids at their sporting events. Saturday mornings were often spent having breakfast with her “Saturday Crew” and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include daughters Lisa (Charles Poper Jr.) Cassens of Polo, Linda (Tom) Gaul of Polo; brother George (Nancy) Tornow of Tampico; grandchildren Lindee, Matt (Barb), Mark (Katie); great-grandson Drake.
She was preceded in death by her sister Pat Fritsch; brother Donald Tornow.
Visitation will be Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St. Cremation rites will be accorded following services with a private burial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial has been established.
