Elizabeth “Betty” J. Pope, 96, of Polo, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020, at Polo Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Betty was born June 8, 1923 in Harmon, the daughter of Joe and Mary (MeKeel) Blackburn. On June 16, 1941 in Dixon she was united in marriage to Max L. Pope. Together they farmed in the area for many years. Betty was a member of the SO-SO Club and an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Alter & Rosary Society of St. Mary Catholic Church both in Polo. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include sons M. Edward (Alice) Pope of Polo, Richard M. Pope of Dixon, David J. Pope of Grand DeTour; brother Kenneth Blackburn of Dixon; 7 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren; many Nieces and Nephews
She was preceded in death by her husband Max on May 7, 1992 and a daughter Sharon Newell on May 7, 1997; sisters Katy Smith, Joannie Sheridan, Mary Johnson, Ann Helfrich and Phyllis Cathey; brothers Lewis, David, Joseph and Bill Blackburn.
A visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with a 2:45 p.m. Rosary Service at Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St., Polo. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 211 N. Franklin Ave in Polo. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed in her name.
