Evelyn M. Shellhause passed peacefully on October 18, 2024 at Walnut Acres in Freeport, IL at the age of 93.
She was born February 13, 1931 in Polo, the daughter of Oliver and Elizabeth (Barnes) Ohlwine.
She spent most of her life dedicated to Education having taught at various school districts including Mt. Morris, Hinsdale, Elmwood Park, Rockford and Forreston after attending Donaldson School, Polo High School and Northern Illinois University (NIU) graduating with a Bachelors in 1952. Her commitment to Education left a lasting impact on countless students thru out her career.
She married Eldon W. Shellhause on July 31, 1954 in Mt Morris and had 2 children, Crystal L (Lonnie) Smith of Springfield and Wayne (Trixie) Shellhause of Freeport. Also surviving are one brother, Orlan Ohlwine of Polo, one granddaughter, Amanda L. (Smith) Matson of Sherman, IL and two great-grandsons, Kaden M. Matson and Dylan J. Matson of Sherman, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eldon, one brother, Orville Ohlwine and one sister Alma Bowser.
Polo Family Funeral Home at 110 E Dixon Street, Polo IL is in charge of arrangements for the family, as cremation rights have been exercised and the burial will be at Brick Church Cemetery, Polo, IL in a private ceremony.
