Larry L. Bonnell, 72, of Polo, passed away Friday, May 27, 2022, at Polo Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center surrounded by his family. Larry was born June 3, 1949, in Sterling, Illinois, the son of Irvin and Helen Bonnell. On May 27, 1977, in Oregon, he was united in marriage to Ms. Connie Hare.
Larry was the best husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family and his grandson Shelton who was the light of his life. Larry volunteered for the Polo ESDA and the Polo Ambulance in the 90’s. He enjoyed his coffee in the morning, hanging Christmas lights, going fishing and chasing storms. Larry proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps. He retired from the Sterling Steel Mill in 2001 after over 27 years.
In 2004 he had a stroke which landed him in Polo Rehab where he’d been for 17 years and where he took his last breath and where he went to sleep forever. He had his favorites there wrapped around his little finger especially when he wanted his coffee or was sneaking his candy. They were great and very kind to him. He will be dearly missed and we love him to the moon and back!
Survivors include wife Connie; daughter Shelley Morris of Polo; brother Leonard Bonnell of Nebraska; grandson Shelton Morris; and all his adopted children at heart.
He was preceded in death by his Parents; brothers Laverne and Mike Bonnell.
A celebration of his life will be Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St. Polo. Military Honors will be at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Honoring Larry’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded.
