Lawrence “Larry” L. Acker, 75, of Polo, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
Larry was born Dec. 16, 1941, in Dixon, the son of Russell Keith and Helen L. (Johnston) Acker. On August 12, 1972, in Rock Island, IL, he was united in marriage to Sibyl Anderson, they just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Larry was a chemist for the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He graduated with multiple degrees from the University of Illinois. He owned 3F Forecasts in Polo for many years, focusing on weather forecasting, market cycles, working with local farmers and professional speaking. Larry played the organ for almost 60 years with many of our local churches. He had his hands in many things in the area and very active within the community.
Survivors include wife Sibyl; daughters Veronica Acker of Springfield, VA, Julie Acker of Savanna, IL, Holly (Ken) Mathiesen of Caledonia, IL; granddaughters Ellie and Kate Mathiesen; sisters Barb Kammer of Monticello, IL, Dee (Art) Budelier of Crystal Lake, IL
He was preceded in death by a brother John in infantcy; brother-in-law Jim Kammer.
Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Monday at Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St. Polo. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 201 N. Division Ave, Polo, Pastor Terrie Wilder officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service with Military Honors at Fairmount Cemetery, Polo.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.
