Lyle Manning

Lyle Manning

Lyle Manning, 84, of Polo, was born on August 20, 1932 on a farm in Lanark.  The family later moved to Polo, where he was raised and spent his wonderful life. He passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017, after a brief but brave battle with Lymphoma.

Lyle met and married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Partridge, on August 22, 1959, and they spent 57 wonderful years together raising their only son, Craig.

Preceded in death by his parents, Benard and Catherine (Halfman) Manning, his sisters Elnora, Izadora, Mary and Donna, and brothers Jack, Edward, Bernie and Laverne.  Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, his son, Craig (Jeannie) of Torrance, California, his sisters Lavonne Blakeslee of Florida and Leota Cavanaugh of Polo, and many nieces and nephews.

Lyle joined the Army in 1952 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He served his country honorably for 2 years.  His love of country and the military continued throughout his life.  He was a member of the Polo American Legion Post  83.  After his military service, Lyle worked for Archway Cookies driving a delivery truck.  Many of Craig’s friends probably recall getting a 5 finger cookie discount.   Later in life, Lyle worked as a janitor at the Polo High School.  We believe it was his favorite job because he could talk and laugh with the kids, which was his passion.  He loved the kids and they loved him. Lyle lived a full life and enjoyed his family and many friends.  He will be greatly missed and remembered for the sweet, funny, loving man that he was.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St. Polo.  Services will begin immediately following visitation at 10:30 concluded with burial at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Polo.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Lyle Manning Memorial.
