Marceline (Marcy) Carol Gilroy, 93, died on March 5 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Cary, NC.
She was born and raised in or around the Polo area for the first 89 years of her life. Her interest in Polo history motivated her to save much Polo memorabilia that will be donated to the Historical society.
Her father was Frank Garman who died when she was a teenager. Her mother was Iva Good Garman who later remarried to Howard Engle
Marcy married young and had two children whom she raised as a single mother, working as a waitress at various restaurants in the area.
She remarried when her kids were nearly grown, and began to attend auctions and antique sales and then set up at antique or flea markets for many years. She enjoyed meeting others this way for decades to come.
She has collected a wide variety of antique/vintage items and researched them in the relative publications. She was an entrepreneurial small business woman who knew the value of them in their day.
During her three plus years living in Cary, she loved reading novels, playing crosswords in a group of friends where she was known as one of the star players, enjoyed the freedom of riding her mobility scooter, and making friends in an independent living community.
She is survived by her daughter, Doresa Satterfield Hunt of Cary and her son Gary Satterfield now deceased.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The ASPCA, The World Wildlife Fund or The Nature Conservancy.
Visitation will be on Monday the 14th from 10-11am at The Open Bible Church with a service to follow at the church at 11am. Come join us for a informal remembrance service.
