Polo – Marjorie K. Vaupel, 87, of Polo, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021, at her home with family by her side.
Marjorie was born Oct. 9, 1934, in Chicago, to Max and Lola (Shaffer) Smart. She grew up and attended school in Ashton where she met and later married Dwayne Vaupel. They moved to south Texas in 1972 and raised their family before returning to Polo in 1988 to enjoy retirement. Marjorie enjoyed trail riding with her family and was an avid traveler, even visiting China in her 80s. Marjorie was a member of Faith Discovery Church and Faith Discovery Spice Girls, the Red Hat Society, Daughters of the Nile, Tebala Shrine Women and volunteered with Serenity Hospice and the Second Hand Rose in Polo. She enjoyed entertaining and hosting a good dinner party. Marjorie loved collecting antiques, sewing and making scrubbies. She donated the proceeds of her scrubbies for mission work. She loved her family and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include daughters Jane Thompson of Lubbock, TX and Amy (Frank) Simmons of Polo; grandchildren Tim Thompson, Sarah Owens, Max Simmons and Mya Simmons; 10 Great Grandchildren and a Great-Great Granddaughter .
She was preceded in death by her husband Dwayne; brother John Smart; .
A celebration of her life will be Monday, Nov. 22, 2021 at Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St., Polo from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Polo Senior Center and Second Hand Rose.
