Robert L. Shemwell, of Rochelle, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at KSB Hospital in Dixon. Robert was born January 19, 1935, in Elkton, KY, the son of John Shemwell and Louise Shemwell-Bolton. On Sept. 7, 1963 in Virginia , he was united in marriage to Edith Jones (she preceded him in June 1990). Robert was a veteran of the United States Army and worked with Honeywell as a Machinist for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing the slots at the casinos.
Survivors include son Carl “Pete” (Annette) Matthews of Polo; step-son Jerry Neece of Missouri; grandchildren Erin Dryden, Scott (Denise) Simms, Jeff Neece, Jerry Neece; 13 Great-Grandchildren; 14 Great Great-Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by son Carl Sr; daughter-in-law Mary; sister Irene
Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St. Burial will be private at the Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
