Russell E. Scholl, 96, of Palm Harbor, FL, formerly of Polo, IL, passed away on April 28th, 2016 in Palm Harbor.
Russell was born in the family farmhouse in Polo, IL to Arthur and Leta Bell (Phundstein) Scholl on September 10, 1919. He went to school in Polo. He married Dorothy L. Keckler on July 21st, 1940 in the East Jordan Church.
He farmed in Polo for many years with his father Arthur Scholl. In 1954 he assumed ownership of the family insurance business upon the death of his father Arthur. He operated the insurance agency until 1982 when he sold the agency to his daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Richard Butler. During the time of his involvement with the Scholl Insurance Agency, he was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Buffalo Mutual Fire Insurance Company, Polo, IL. He also served on the board of directors of the Rockford Mutual Insurance Company, Rockford, IL. He was a member of Rotary International for many years, serving as President of the Polo Rotary Club with a perfect attendance record of over 20 years. He was a 46 year member of the Polo Masonic Lodge, Mystic Tie #187, A. F.& A. M. . Also held membership in the Consistory in Freeport, IL and the Tebala Shrine Club, Rockford, IL.
Russell is survived by his daughter Gloria (Richard) Butler, a son Gary (Nancy) Scholl, grandchildren Robin (Dan) Duncan and Tamela (Mark) Merdian and Stacy (Jeff) Fabiszewski, Holly (Cris) Beeson, Jen (Sebastian) Echenique, Jackie (Danny) Sanchez, Jason (Mallory) Smith and Tamara(Daryn) Mulholand, Melissa (Scott)Weathers, Kelli Roley and Jeff (Megan) LaCoursiere, 24 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, Sister Doris (Bill) Janssen and Sister-in Law Lola Jean Brantner.
Russell is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, a brother Kenneth Scholl.
A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21st. Service at 11:00, Masonic Service will follow at the Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St. Burial will be at the Fairmont Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
