Sonja “Toni” Cross

Sonja “Toni” Cross

Sonja “Toni” Cross 78 of Polo passed away Thursday November 9th 2023 at Serenity Hospice Home in Oregon.

Toni was born January 19th, 1945, in Dixon IL. The daughter of Paul “Gene” and Beatrice (Pontnak) Weigle. On February 2, 1964, at St. Marks Lutheran church in Polo, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Cross.

She worked at PNC & Kable News. She was also a full-time farmer. Her greatest joy was working side by side with Bill. From milking cows, to helping deliver lambs and working in the fields. She often would come home from work and jump on “her” tractor. She loved it all!

In retirement, she enjoyed sewing projects and baking. Toni spent many hours helping Tami bake cookies and enjoying their time together. She always loved aggravating her “favorite” son-in-law as much as she could but Jerry giving it right back was what she enjoyed most.

Survived by Bill; daughter Tami (Jerry) Hornbogen of Polo; her fur baby Buddy who never left her side; sisters Karen (Larry) Reap of Kansas, Lynn Johnson of Georgia, Vicki (Butch) Woods of Mt Carroll, IL, sister-in-law Karen (Jim) Bingle of Polo; many nieces & nephews; several cousins.

Our heartfelt thank you to everyone at Serenity for their exceptional home care – Chloe, Courtney, Rachel, April, & Jodi. You loved mom so much and that will never be forgotten. You know you have special people when your face lights up and brings you to tears when she sees you. Even though her stay was short, many thanks to the care and serene environment Serenity Hospice and Home provided mom during her short time there. Special thanks to Lisa & Diane. Much appreciation to Karen Bingle her stand-by caretaker for all her extra help.

Honoring Toni’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded.

Memorials to Serenity Hospice & Home.
