Thomas “Tom” Ackeberg, 63, of Polo, passed away Friday, November 24th at KSB Hospital in Dixon, Illinois. Tom was born May 21st, 1954, in Morrison, the son of Robert and Hazel (Thompson) Ackeberg. He graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1972. He married Leslie Fisk on October 17th, 1975.
Tom was a lover of Case IH and began working for Prophetstown Equipment upon graduating. In 1988, he transferred to Polo Equipment where he continued his career in parts sales. These companies later sold to Birkey’s Farm Store where he worked until his death. He is a past member of the Masonic Lodge, Prophetstown Fire Department and Polo Fire Department.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and could often be found on a country drive or winding down with friends over a cold beer. He was an avid Illinois sports fan and enjoyed watching the Cubs, Fighting Illini and the Bears.
Survivors include sons David (Lora) Ackeberg of Polo and Steve Ackeberg of Sterling; and daughters Libby Ackeberg of Polo, Maggie (Matt) Cox of Polo, and Amanda (Tim) O’Brien of Sterling. He was the proud grandfather of Westen Ackeberg, Myah Ackeberg, Lindsey O’Brien, Maryn and Barret Clothier, and Grant Cox.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Stephen Ackeberg.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 29th 2017 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St. Polo. The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 30th, 2017 at Faith United Methodist Church, 702 E. Dixon St., Polo. A private burial will take place before the memorial service at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.
