Vernon C. Meyer, age 86, passed away on Monday May 29, 2017 at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Mt. Morris, IL. Vernon was born on Sept. 25, 1930 in Dakota, IL the son of Harper and Gladys (Wise) Meyer. He graduated from Polo High School. Vernon married Lorraine Lottie Knie on September 26, 1953 in Polo, IL. He first started work as a partner in an excavation company, then farmed in the Polo area 10 years, and then operated heavy equipment until his retirement. Vernon was proud to be a 63 year member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 (both an active and retired status member).
Vernon was a past Master Mason in the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of Illinois, and member of the Polo Church of the Brethren.
Vernon is survived by his wife Lorraine, his children, Jerry (Jane) Meyer of Orion IL, Rick (Libby) Meyer of Byron, IL, Jeannie (Mike) Sanders of Lansing, MI, and Laura Meyer (William Huffman) of Dixon, IL, six grandchildren Nick Meyer (Lisa Koerner), Diane (Trace) Bauman, Matt Meyer, David (Amy) Meyer, Sarah Sanders, and Samantha Sanders, and five great-grandchildren, Leah Bauman, Caleb Bauman, Beckett Meyer, Sullivan Meyer, and Ashton Meyer. Also surviving are his brothers Willard Meyer, Richard Meyer, and Lowell Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Wayne Meyer, and his sisters, LaVonne Diehl, Marilyn Fontana, Roberta Weber, and Allene Gilbert.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday June 3, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the Polo Church of the Brethren, 401 S Congress Ave Polo, IL with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
